Susenas (National Economics Census) Data of Indonesia 2007 pointed out that number of household who is headed by a woman has achieved 13.60 % or approximately 6 million households which covered more than 30 million citizens. If it was compared with Data 2001 when the first time PEKKA was considered was less than 13 %, this data pointed out a trend of woman headed household progress was average at 0.1 % per year.

I consider myself very fortunate to have been mentored by a powerful activist, Nani Zulminani.

Nani is the National Coordinator of an Indone-sian NGO known as PEKKA. PEKKA works with around 550 women headed households in 15 provinces of Indonesia and the programs of PEKKA are quite similar to that of FRIEND. Nani understood the struggles and challenges I face in our context and was very helpful in de-veloping my skills towards becoming a regional a trainer. Nani was appointed my mentor at the NeXT- Regional Facilitators Course (RFC) organised by Asia South Pacific Basic & Adult Education (ASPBAE) in Bogor, Indonesia last year.

Divisi pendidikan dari lembaga Pekka sudah di kenali oleh masyarakat yang ada di desa-desa. Sasaran Pekka baik Ina – Ina Pekka maupun non Pekka, sejak lama khususnya dalam penanganan masalah buta huruf, lupa huruf dan tidak tamat SD. Seiring dengan lajunya perkembangan jaman, serikat Pekka NTT lewat program pendidikan bergerak pelan tapi pasti. Dalam menggapai impian dan cita – cita Ina – Ina Pekka ke depan, lebih- lebih setelah lahirnya undang – undang No. 20 tahun 2003 tentang Sistem Pendidikan Nasional.
